Meta has been betting big on AI in recent times across its social media apps. The company is now allowing users in the US to create an AI version of themselves to reach a wider audience. The feature can let users create and "discover AI characters". While Meta Platforms is rolling out the Llama 3.1-powered AI Studio only in the US, more countries may be added later. The functionality will be available to users on the Instagram app and the web at 'ai.meta.com/ai-studio'.
According to Meta, eligible users can start a new message and then choose the 'Create an AI chat' option. Users can also customise the character's name, avatar, personality, tone and tagline. These AI characters can offer personalised tips and content and represent you on your behalf in chats. Creators can set up "AI as an extension of themselves that can quickly answer common DM questions and story replies".

"Whether it's sharing facts about themselves or linking to their favourite brands and past videos, creator AIs can help creators reach more people and fans get responses faster," Meta noted. These AI characters can be customised based on things such as content, topics to avoid and links, which they want the model to share. Responses from the AI are labelled to maintain transparency among fans.
Instagram creators can manage auto-replies from the professional dashboard. It also allows users to decide to whom the AI can reply. Users can interact with AI characters by tapping the Message button and choosing the 'three-star' icon on a creator's profile.
Creators can choose the content from which they want to train their AI character, ranging from Instagram and Threads. The AI can search across recent information and can be trained to include image generation capabilities through Imagine. Users can also edit and update their AI from the AI Studio to refine AI behaviour. Users can share the AI character with followers and friends or allow discoverability across Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and the web experience.
