Instagram, owned by Meta, is reportedly testing a feature that limits posts to only paid verified users, mimicking Elon Musk's X platform. Early this year, there were reports that Meta was planning to introduce a premium subscription service that would enable users to pay for an Instagram or Facebook-verified account. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri has shed light on this endeavour by framing it as a means of giving users greater control over their experience and increasing the visibility of businesses and creators.
The Verge claims that the recently added "Meta Verified" setting will appear as a choice in the "Following" and "Favourites" sections and can be accessed by tapping the Instagram logo at the top of the app.

This service, which is called the Meta Verified programme, costs $11.99 over the web and $14.99 when used through the app. It provides users with a unique way to increase their visibility in the Instagram feed, which is consistent with the larger trend of providing premium features in exchange for a membership charge.
Adam Mosseri urged users to express their interest in utilising the new feed, which is only available to verified accounts, while Meta assesses the level of demand expected for this premium service.
In a related development, rumours this month surfaced that Meta intended to charge $14 for an ad-free experience on Facebook or Instagram in Europe. In order to prevent customised adverts, users in the European zone will have the option to pay a fee. Furthermore, The Wall Street Journal stated that a combined subscription costs $17 per month for users who want to browse Facebook and Instagram ad-free.
