Instagram Repost Map Feature: Meta dropped some new features on Instagram on Wednesday; these new updates include reposts, a location-sharing map and a renewed "Friends" section. These new features allow you to do various things, such as share public reels and posts, track a friend's location and discover content as well. However, these features are not faring very well with the public and are facing backlash from the online community on the grounds that it is just trying to "copy TikTok", an app that has been banned in India.
What Does Repost Do?
This feature allows you to access and share public reels and posts directly with your followers.

When you repost something on Instagram, it gets its own space in the “Reposts” tab on your profile. It can also show up in your followers' feeds, giving them a peek into what you're enjoying. It’s an easy way to share content you love with the people who follow you.
And if you’re a creator, reposts can really help your content get discovered. When someone shares your post or reel, it could reach people who don’t even follow you yet — opening doors to a wider audience.
How to Repost:
Tap the repost icon on any public post or reel.
Want to add your thoughts? Use the thought bubble to include a note.
Hit save — and that’s it.
What’s the Instagram Map?
Instagram Map is a new feature designed to help you feel more connected — not just to friends, but to places too. It shows posts and activity from people you follow based on where they’ve shared it. So whether a friend is exploring a cool café or a creator is posting from an iconic spot, the map lets you discover content through location. It’s a fresh way to explore Instagram and find things that spark your interest.
Why Is There A Backlash? How Are Users Reacting
People over social media are not really stoked about the feature; the online community have taken to various platforms to showcase their disapproval, especially with the reposting features.
“First it was Stories (Snapchat), then Reels (TikTok), now reposts (Twitter). Instagram’s whole personality is borrowed,” a user posted on X (Twitter).

“Instagram wants to be TikTok so bad you can repost reels now 😭,” another user wrote.
There is a feature already existing on TikTok that is quite similar to what Instagram has just introduced; the TikTok Repost feature lets users share others videos with their list of followers, something similar to a retweet on X (Twitter). These reposted videos appear in followers' For You section and not on the said users profiles who shared them.
