This season has been all about smartphone launches, and the one thing that the industry is hell-bent on selling is slimmer smartphones, and it seems like they are making a comeback. We just witnessed Apple drop its latest innovation, the iPhone Air, and this measures at around 5.6 mm. That is quite impressive, but it comes with its own set of drawbacks. What are those, you might ask? Well, it's a smaller battery, a compromise on the camera setup, and a few design changes that are unconventional for Apple; it's a completely different device all in all. So let's take a look at how it compares to its closest competitor in the market, Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge.

Design and Build
The iPhone Air is slimmer at 5.6 mm compared to the S25 Edge’s 5.8 mm, though both are among the thinnest flagships around. Apple uses a Ceramic Shield 2 front, a titanium frame, and a Ceramic Shield glass back, while Samsung opts for Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back with a titanium frame. Both are IP68 certified, but Apple’s version promises up to 6 m immersion for 30 minutes, whereas Samsung offers up to 1.5 m.
Display
Apple sticks with a 6.5-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED at 1260 x 2736 pixels, supporting Dolby Vision and HDR10 with a peak brightness of 3000 nits. Samsung counters with a 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED 2X panel at a sharper 1440 x 3120 pixels, HDR10+, and 480 Hz PWM dimming for smoother visuals.
Performance
The iPhone Air is powered by Apple’s new A19 Pro (3nm) chipset with a hexa-core CPU and Apple GPU, running iOS 26. Samsung’s S25 Edge runs Android 15 with 7 years of updates, driven by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite (3 nm) and an Adreno 830 GPU. Both promise top-tier speed, but Samsung’s higher clock speeds may appeal to power users.
Cameras
The iPhone Air uses a 48MP wide sensor with OIS, plus an 18MP selfie camera with OIS and Apple’s signature SL 3D depth sensor for Face ID and spatial audio recording. Video goes up to 4K Dolby Vision HDR.
Samsung ups the ante with a 200MP main sensor with OIS and a 12MP ultrawide, plus a 12MP selfie shooter. Video recording extends to 8K@30fps, giving creators more flexibility.
Battery and Charging
Apple’s slim form factor limits the battery to 3149 mAh, with fast wired PD2.0 (50% in 30 minutes) and MagSafe/Qi2 wireless charging. Samsung’s larger 3900mAh battery supports 25W wired charging (55% in 30 minutes), 15W wireless, and reverse wired charging.
Storage and Variants
The iPhone Air comes in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB options, all with 12GB RAM, while the S25 Edge offers 256GB or 512GB with 12GB RAM. Neither supports expandable storage.
Pricing
The pricing for iPhone Air in India starts at ₹1,19,900, whereas the Galaxy S25 Edge is listed for ₹1,09,999 for the starting variant on online retail stores like Amazon.
Verdict
The iPhone Air focuses on extreme thinness, premium durability, and Apple’s ecosystem perks like Face ID and Dolby Vision HDR. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge offers a crisper screen, a larger battery, a higher-resolution camera, and a substantially lower price.
Briefly put, Apple is pursuing design refinement and unification, whereas Samsung is providing plain specs and value. Your decision will be based on whether you value Apple's streamlined ecosystem or Samsung's all-around behemoth.
