iPhone 17 Series: Apple’s next iPhone lineup—the iPhone 17 series—is still a couple of months away, but leaks have already started building a clearer picture of what to expect. Likely to launch in September 2025, the lineup may include four models: the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and an all-new variant called the iPhone 17 Air.
From a refreshed design to performance upgrades and notable camera changes, the iPhone 17 series is shaping up to be one of the most significant updates Apple has rolled out in recent years.
What’s New in the iPhone 17 Design?
While the standard iPhone 17 is expected to carry forward the iPhone 16’s design, complete with the Action Button and USB-C port, the Pro models are tipped for a visual overhaul. Reports suggest a move to rounded edges and a larger, rectangular camera module on the back—something that draws comparisons to the Pixel 9 Pro’s rear layout.
A major change could come in the form of the iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to replace the Plus model. It could be Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet, featuring a 6.6-inch display and a slimmer profile than the iPhone 16 Pro.

Screen sizes are expected to shift slightly:
- The base iPhone 17 might grow from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches.
- The Pro Max could retain its 6.9-inch screen.
- All models, including non-Pro versions, may finally get 120 Hz refresh rate displays.
Camera Upgrades in the iPhone 17 Series
Big changes could be coming to the front and rear cameras across the iPhone 17 lineup.
The selfie camera is expected to see a bump from 12 MP to 24 MP, bringing sharper and more detailed front shots.
On the back:
- The standard iPhone 17 may offer a 48 MP dual-camera setup.
- The Pro Max could debut with three 48 MP sensors for wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto shooting.
- 8K video recording might also finally arrive—at least on the top-end Pro Max model.
This would be the first time Apple ships a triple 48MP camera system on an iPhone.
What to Expect From the Chipset and Battery
Under the hood, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to be powered by Apple’s next-generation A19 Pro chip, while the base model may stick with the A18—the same chip used in the iPhone 16. If this happens, Apple may face the same criticism it received for reusing chips in the iPhone 14.
In terms of RAM, the Pro Max could pack up to 12 GB, with other models featuring 8 GB.

Battery life is also expected to improve, with slightly larger capacities across the lineup—especially for the standard model, which is rumoured to have a larger screen. Fast charging might get an upgrade too, with 35W support, although that’s still behind what many Android phones already offer. Apple may also introduce a vapour chamber cooling system for the Pro Max to improve performance during extended usage.
When Will the iPhone 17 Launch?
While Apple hasn’t officially confirmed the launch timeline, the iPhone 17 series is expected to be unveiled in September 2025, likely during the second week of the month, as per the brand’s usual schedule. Pre-orders and availability would follow soon after.
There are also reports of a more affordable iPhone 17e model, which could launch in early 2026.
Expected Pricing in India
According to leaks, the iPhone 17 could start at around ₹79,999, similar to the iPhone 16, largely due to its reportedly unchanged chipset. The new iPhone 17 Air may cost slightly more—around ₹89,999—matching the current Plus variant’s price tag.

As for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, expect a potential price hike of at least ₹5,000, thanks to rising component and production costs. That said, Apple’s ongoing manufacturing efforts in India could help keep Indian prices more stable compared to other regions.
With meaningful upgrades in design, performance, and cameras—and the introduction of the new Air model—the iPhone 17 lineup looks like a major step forward. All eyes will be on Apple this September to see how much of this leak-based buzz becomes reality.
