With Apple’s yearly hardware event on the horizon, new reports are emerging with key insights into the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup. The upcoming series is expected to bring several hardware and design overhauls and will reportedly include four models: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air: Standard and Slimmer Variants
Among them, the standard iPhone 17 is likely to offer only modest upgrades over its predecessor. However, Apple is introducing a completely new model called the iPhone 17 Air. This device is said to be a slimmer, lighter variant designed with portability in mind. To achieve its thinner profile, it could feature a single rear camera, while still offering a 120Hz OLED display—an upgrade from previous non-Pro models. It is also expected to run on Apple’s upcoming A19 chip.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max: Flagship Redesigns and Performance Boosts
The higher-end iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models will likely be the flagship offerings of the lineup, geared toward users seeking top-tier performance and features. These Pro models are rumored to receive a major design update, departing from the familiar look introduced in 2020. Changes may include a rectangular camera layout and smoother edge contours.
Stainless Steel Frames May Return
In a strategic shift, Apple might switch back to stainless steel frames for the Pro variants, moving away from the titanium material used in recent models. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to maintain its 6.9-inch display, continuing to serve as the lineup’s largest device.
New A19 Pro Chip and Display Enhancements
Both Pro variants are tipped to run on Apple’s A19 Pro chipset, based on an enhanced 3nm process, offering better speed and power efficiency. Like their predecessors, they will support 120Hz ProMotion OLED displays with Always-On Display features. Interestingly, this year’s standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air may also receive 120Hz refresh rates, a first for non-Pro iPhones.
Camera Upgrades for the Pro Models
Camera performance is expected to see major improvements. All three rear cameras on the Pro models—the main, ultrawide, and telephoto—are reportedly being upgraded to 48MP sensors. The telephoto unit may offer 5x optical zoom, helping Apple compete more directly with flagship Android phones like the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Other rumored enhancements include 8K video recording, improved low-light photography, and better video stabilization.
Battery and Charging Improvements
Battery life could be extended by one to two hours, thanks to increased battery capacity. Additionally, charging speeds are expected to rise to 35W, which, while slower than most Android flagships, would still represent a meaningful improvement over current iPhone models.
Pricing and Launch Expectations
The Pro models may see a price increase of around Rs 5,000 compared to their predecessors. This positions the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max as direct competitors to foldable smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. Apple is expected to announce official pricing and availability at its fall event later this year.
