Rumors around Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 lineup have been circulating for months, and while the company hasn’t officially confirmed the new models, multiple leaks continue to offer a clearer picture of what to expect. The iPhone 17 series is expected to include four models: the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Bigger, Better Display for the Base iPhone 17
According to a recent claim by display industry expert Ross Young on X (formerly Twitter), the base iPhone 17 model will feature a larger and more advanced screen than its predecessor. Instead of the 6.1-inch display found on the iPhone 16, the iPhone 17 is expected to sport a 6.3-inch panel (technically, 6.27 inches). More significantly, this new screen is said to support a 120Hz refresh rate — a feature previously reserved for Apple’s Pro models.

This marks a major upgrade for the non-Pro iPhones. Apple’s ProMotion display technology allows for smoother scrolling and animations by adjusting the refresh rate dynamically. Until now, only the iPhone Pro and Pro Max versions offered this experience, while standard models remained capped at 60Hz. Bringing 120Hz to the base iPhone 17 could significantly narrow the gap between the standard and premium variants.
What About the Other Models?
Previous leaks suggest that the iPhone 17 Pro will also feature a 6.3-inch display, aligning it in size with the standard model. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Air — a new addition to the lineup — is expected to come with an even larger 6.5-inch screen, making it the biggest of the three (aside from the Pro Max, whose size hasn’t been detailed yet).
As for what’s under the hood, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air are rumored to run on either the A18 or A19 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM. The Pro and Pro Max versions are expected to take things a step further with the A19 Pro chip and 12GB of RAM.
Launch Timeline
If Apple sticks to its usual schedule, the iPhone 17 lineup will likely be unveiled in September. While nothing is official just yet, the steady stream of leaks and industry insights continues to build anticipation for what could be a more unified and powerful iPhone family.
