iPhone 17 Series: Apple’s iPhone 17 series is expected to debut later this year, and according to early leaks, it could bring a notable memory upgrade. The lineup — likely including the base model, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max — might finally move beyond the 8GB RAM ceiling seen in the current iPhone 16 generation.
On the Chinese platform Weibo, in a post, a tipster, Digital Chat Station, claimed that the upcoming iPhone 17 models will come equipped with 12GB of RAM. That’s a significant step up from the 8GB found in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. The tipster also said the added memory is intended to support Apple Intelligence and other AI-backed tools "on a large scale,” suggesting Apple’s deepening focus on AI performance and capability.

Looking ahead, the iPhone 18 lineup — expected sometime in the second half of 2026 — might take things even further. According to the same source, those models will include six-channel LPDDR5X memory, a move likely to provide a noticeable boost in overall speed and responsiveness.
On the chipset front, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are tipped to run on Apple’s upcoming A19 Pro chip, built on TSMC’s 3nm process. Combined with 12GB RAM, this new SoC is expected to offer a significant performance bump over the A18 Pro used in the current iPhone 16 Pro models.
Adding to the speculation, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently reported that Apple is indeed considering bumping the base iPhone 17 up to 12GB of RAM as well — a change that would unify memory across the entire range. He also said that the iPhone 18 series will likely stick to 12GB RAM across all variants.
As for design changes, one model — the iPhone 17 Air — was recently spotted in leaked dummy units showing off an ultra-slim design, hinting at Apple’s next aesthetic shift. Meanwhile, another device from the lineup has already cleared its Engineering Validation Test (EVT), one of the earliest stages of hardware testing. Next, it will undergo the Design Validation Test (DVT) and Production Validation Test (PVT) before moving into mass production — a process that keeps Apple on track for its usual September launch window.
With a stronger AI focus, more RAM, and fresh design updates, the iPhone 17 series is shaping up to be one of the most substantial iPhone upgrades in recent years.
