RELIANCE Jio is among the top telecom service provider in India. It became a popular choice in India after offering 4G services for free in India for a brief period at the time of its launch. And the popularity has led Jio to announce that the users consumed more than 10 exabytes (or 10 Billion GB) in a month, as per an Indian Express report. To shower some context, in 2016, 4.6 exabytes of data was consumed by users on all networks annually.

Over 23 GB of data consumed by a subscriber in a month

The report states over 30 exabytes of Internet data was used by subscribers in the first three months of 2023. It cited a report from Jio, released in tandem with its quarterly results, which suggested that a Jio user consumed roughly 23.1 GB of data per month on average. This is a 10 GB jump from the consumption amount that prevailed two years back.

As per the figures, the company added over 3.5 lakh 5G cells spanning over 60,000 sites. Over 1,000 minutes of calls

Coming to voice connectivity, on average, a user engages in calls for slightly over 1,000 minutes in a month on the network. The consolidated figures of calling stand at 1,459 crore minutes of voice calls, as per Jansatta.

The figures also reflect a rise in the average revenue per user (ARPU) that stands at Rs 178.8/month. Further, according to the news report, Jio announced plans to launch 'Airfiber', with the aim to add fiber and Airfiber in over ten crore houses.

Meanwhile, the high data consumption can also be (partly) attributed to the ongoing IPL fever in India. Jio is offering the streaming of the cricket game on JioCinema.
