Recently LinkedIn have made changes to their terms and conditions, effective as of 3 November 2025. LinkedIn is a professional networking platform which recently announced it will begin collecting user data to train AI models as well as sharing some information with Microsoft (parent company of LinkedIn) and affiliates that serve targeted ads to users. At present this change only affects European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), Canada, Hong Kong and Switzerland users.

What Data LinkedIn Will Collect

According to LinkedIn’s support page, the platform will use user data to improve “content-generating AI models” that power features such as AI writing assistants and smart suggestions.

Collected Data: Profile details, public posts, feed activity, and ad engagement

Not Collected: Private messages

The company says this change is meant to “enhance your experience and better connect members to opportunities.”

- LinkedIn profile data

- Feed activity data

- Ad engagement data

LinkedIn noted this doesn’t include any data users haven’t already consented to the platform using for advertising.

Final Thoughts

In its new update, LinkedIn is placing a bigger emphasis on AI-driven features, while also setting itself pocket square in line with Microsoft’s ad strategy. But by distancing itself from AI training as well as targeted ads, the company is giving pros additional control over their data.
