Apple is possibly working on the plans for a major MacBook Pro overhaul. Earlier, the company was expected to reveal its first touchscreen MacBook Pro in early 2027; a recent report implies that the launch could now happen earlier than the last report. Now Apple might introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro this year itself before the year ends. The upcoming model is expected to bring an OLED touchscreen panel and will also have a feature similar to the iPhone, signalling a major design shift for Apple’s professional laptops in years.

OLED Touchscreen Apple MacBook Pro Launch Timeline

A Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the matter said that Apple is planning to launch a MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen in the fall of 2026. This would mark Apple’s first ever laptop with an OLED touchscreen. However, the company has not confirmed the device yet.

Previously, the touchscreen MacBook Pro was expected to arrive in early 2027 as part of a broader design and hardware refresh.

Dynamic Island May Replace the Notch

As currently the MacBooks have notch displays, some reports claim that the new MacBook Pro will replace it with the dynamic island similar to Apple iPhones. This was first introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro series in 2022. Now the dynamic island could house the webcam while also supporting media controls, live activities, and third-party app interactions on macOS.

Earlier the rumpus suggested that there would be a punch-hole cutout offering similar functionality; however, the latest info indicates a dynamic island-style implementation.

Design, User Experience, and Hardware

The OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro is said to retain a familiar design, including a similar backlit keyboard and trackpad. Importantly, Apple is reportedly avoiding a “touch-first experience”. Instead, users will be able to interact with the display “as much or as little as they'd like”, following a “point-and-click approach”.

The new lineup, reportedly code-named K114 and K116, is expected to be powered by Apple’s unannounced M6 chip and feature “thinner and lighter frames”. It could be offered in both 14-inch and 16-inch variants.
