As malware and online threat actors continue to explore different ways to infect your gadgets and reap benefits, the Cyber Swachhta Kendra (CSK) strives for a secure cyber environment to tackle the spread, detect infections and ensure timely cleansing to minimise the impacts of the botnet malware. The centre is a part of the Digital India initiative of the Indian government under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
The Botnet Cleaning and Malware Analysis Centre outlines a list of tools a user can use to clean a malware-infected computer or Android device for free. Here are more details to clean your infected PCs and smartphones.
For Android Phones and Tablets:
The portal list two Android apps to clean botnet malware from an Android device. These two applications offer a security toolkit for smartphones running on Android.
- eScan Antivirus
- M-Kavach 2 (by C-DAC Hyderabad)
You can download them from the Google Play Store or head to the official website of CSK and run the scan to check for malware.
For Microsoft Windows-running Computers:
CSK highlights three free botnet removal tools:
- eScan Antivirus
- K7 Security
- Quick Heal
Depending on the architecture (32/64-bit) of your device, you can head to the official website and download the antivirus. After completing the setup, you can run the scan to clean malware/bot.
Besides these, the website also gives us three additional tools for added safety from USB Drives and web pages.
USB Pratirodh: Removable media control solution
The tool controls the use of USB drives. Once configured, only authenticated entities can access the contents of the removable media. Plus, it offers malware detection, data encryption and more features.
AppSamvid Software
Designed for Windows, it only allows the functioning of whitelisted applications on a computer. It can protect users from Viruses and Trojans.
Browser JSGuard Extension
This browser extension allows the detection of malicious HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and Javascript attacks. It alerts users about malicious web pages, alongside providing them with a detailed report.
Meanwhile, the centre recently alerted users on the highly dangerous Daam Android Botnet. You can read more on this here.
