Meta has announced it is expanding its AI assistant globally in more regions and adding additional features. Users can use the AI chat model in social media apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Messenger. The company first announced Meta AI at Connect 2023. Apart from the US, the company is now expanding Meta AI to over a dozen countries.

According to a Meta blog post, the capabilities will expand to Meta apps in "Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe". The company said with Llama 3, Meta AI has become smarter and faster.

The company shared that the free assistant can be used in feeds, chats, search and more and gets real-time access to information. It also offers image-generation capabilities. Meta AI can recommend places, suggest recipes based on the available food items and more. Users can also use the 'imagine' prompt to generate images.

Meta said it is rolling out Meta AI on the web too. "We want Meta AI to be available when you're trying to get things done at your computer too, so we're rolling out meta.ai (the website) today [not available in India]." Users can log in to save conversations to get back to them in future.

Meta said that Meta AI will be available in the search bar of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. Users can also access the AI assistant when scrolling through their Facebook Feed via the 'Ask Meta AI' icon or using suggested prompts on a post. The company said it will allow users to "create images from text in real-time using Meta AI's Imagine feature".

The Imagine feature will roll out in beta on WhatsApp and Meta AI web in the United States. The company said: "You'll see an image appear as you start typing — and it'll change with every few letters typed, so you can watch as Meta AI brings your vision to life." While offering sharper and higher quality output, it can also animate a still output.
