Microsoft is increasing the prices of its Xbox consoles in the US - after imposing a similar, worldwide hike earlier this year. Effective October 3, 2025, the price of Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X models will rise anywhere from $20 to $70 more. The company said it was making the change because of “shifts in the macroeconomic environment,” a reason it has given before for price changes.
New Xbox Console Prices in the US
Here’s a rundown of the new pricing for Xbox consoles as of October 3:
- Xbox Series S (512GB): $399.99 (increase from $379.99)
- Xbox Series S (1TB): $449.99 (increased from $429.99)
- Xbox Series X (Digital): $599.99 (was $549.99)
- Xbox Series X (Disc): $649.99 (was $599.99)
- Xbox Series X (2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition): $799.99 (up $70 from $729.99)
This gives it a higher price than Sony’s PS5 Pro, which will set you back $749.99 in the US.

Why the Price Hike?
In a support page update, Microsoft said:
“We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration. Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and providing value for Xbox players.”
The ad also emphasized that pricing in other parts of the world won't be affected a bit by this increase, and accessories like controllers and headsets are not concerned with this rise in cost.
Second Xbox Price Hike in 2025
This is the second rise in price of Xbox consoles this year. In May 2025, Microsoft jacked up the Series S by $80 and the Series X was $100 more, blaming close to the same economic pressures and increasing development costs.

The company also previously said it would be bumping the price of select first-party games up from $70 to $80, starting with The Outer Worlds 2 in October. But, it reversed that decision in July and will be charging the usual $69.99 for new holiday releases like The Outer Worlds 2.
Conclusion
If the October price increase goes through, Xbox Series X and S units will be noticeably pricier in the US, closing that gap with those seasonings of PlayStation hardware. Although Microsoft is still keen to promote value in the form of Game Pass and cross-device play, the increasing expense of hardware might pull focus for gamers – particularly now that the PS5 Pro seems more competitive in price.
