Navi UPI, introduced in India in August 2023, has announced two key updates — biometric authentication and a simplified onboarding process — at the Global Fintech Festival 2025. These features will aid Navi UPI in making digital payments quicker, safer and more convenient for millions of users across the country.

Navi UPI Becomes India’s First Platform to Enable Biometric Payments at Scale

The most prominent in the announcement is bio-metric-based payments, which will now enable users to authenticate UPI transactions through fingerprint or facial recognition without having to enter a UPI PIN. With this, Navi UPI becomes India’s first UPI platform to roll out biometric-based scale transactions, said the company.

The feature is meant to enhance the digital payments experience with always-on convenience and security as more consumers choose a faster and PIN-free way to check out. The authentication takes place completely inside the secure, OS-native environment of the phone so that personal data is never shared with any third party.

Enhanced Security and User Privacy

Navi UPI said the biometric system has been built to cut the number of declined transactions it would inevitably lead to and provide better defence against phishing and social engineering attacks. As the authentication process happens in device-level security, users enjoy and added peace-of-mind as well as convenience when paying.

This will make it easy for users to have full control over their own security preferences — with the ability to toggle biometric authentication on and off from within the app’s settings at any time.

Simplified Onboarding for New Users

With biometric authentication, Navi UPI has launched an expedited onboarding experience for new customers. According to the company, with this improved flow fewer setup steps and better auto-verification help users create a new UPI account and start transacting faster.

Gradual Rollout Across Platforms

Both biometric authentication and easier onboarding are rolling out to Android and iOS in the coming weeks, with availability to all users imminent, Navi said.

With these enhancements, Navi UPI remains at the forefront of innovation in India’s fintech ecosystem as it continues to reimagine digital payment convenience and security ‘in a click’ on the back of a state-of-art technology.
