Netflix and OpenAI: Netflix is joining hands with OpenAI and is working on a new search functionality, this might change the way you interact with the OTT platform enabling it to understand what you watch and interpret it much better.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the streaming giant is looking forward to enhancing search capabilities that understand your intentions better. This could go as far as searching for very specific content based on users' moods.

This new search functionality can also be utilised to ask questions that “go well beyond genres or actors’ names” Bloomberg report added. Currently, the feature is available in Australia and New Zealand and is only available on iOS devices as an optional feature.

This has been confirmed in an interview from The Verge with Netflix spokesperson MoMo Zhou who has also expressed that the testing will also take place in the US “in the coming weeks and months”. The spokesperson further added that apart from iOS there are no current plans of expanding its rollout.

The use of AI is not something which is new for Netflix, as it still uses it to recommend content and construct an algorithm for each user, this new change will be the biggest AI-driven innovation from the streaming giant in a very long time.

So what's new in this feature? Users will be able to search based on their mood preferences or more detailed descriptions instead of just typing in the genre or actor's name. For instance, you could just type “funny movies to watch when I’m feeling stressed” or something like, “shows with strong female leads set in the 90s,” and this would prompt Netflix to give you the most appropriate suggestions.

With this development, it can be observed that more and more tech companies are joining hands with OpenAI and other AI-driven enterprises. With this functionality, it would seem that we might get to experience Netflix in a way where it understands your mood.
