Netflix, a prominent video streaming website that has been attempting to eliminate password sharing to boost the company's dwindling income, is now available in India. The OTT giant is now sending emails to subscribers informing them that their account is solely for them and the members of their household and that anyone else using their profile must immediately transfer their account to a new account, for which they must pay, and contemplate password sharing.
The company had already been testing the product in other countries before bringing it to the Indian market, which is one of the company's most important markets, with 6.1 million reported customers (in March).
Netflix Password Sharing Ended In India:
According to the blog post, the company has announced that users outside the household must use Transfer Profile and take their separate account or else they will not be able to use it. "Starting today, we will be sending this email to members who are sharing Netflix outside their household in India. A Netflix account is for use by one household. Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are — at home, on the go, on holiday — and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices,” it said.
"We understand that our members have many options for enjoyment. It is for this reason that we continue to invest substantially in a diverse range of new films and TV shows – so that whatever your taste, mood, or language, and whoever you are viewing with, there is always something pleasurable to watch on Netflix," it added.
What Should Netflix Users Do?
If you own an account, you should check who is logged in and using it by heading to the account's Security and Privacy settings and selecting the Manage Access and devices option.
If you see someone outside your household, you must sign out the devices and the password. Other users to protect their data including history, viewing data can transfer their profile.
Netflix Household And Requirements
To stream Netflix, users need a Netflix household, which is the main television in the home. The blog also stated that the devices must share the same internet connection as the TV to join Netflix Household.
