Nintendo Switch 2 Launched: If you are a gamer and have been into handheld consoles like me, then this is a big day for you, as the Nintendo Switch 2 has finally arrived! It is one of the most anticipated and significant console launches of this decade, and fans are not holding back as popular retail stores like Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy and Target are witnessing long queues just at their doorstep crowded with fans who want to be the first ones to get their hands on this new console.

With crowds lined up outside stores, Nintendo might be able to replicate what Apple did once. Missed the pre-order for the Nintendo Switch 2? Don’t worry—there’s still a chance to grab one. Several major retailers kicked off midnight launches with limited stock for walk-in buyers, so heading to your nearest store early might still pay off.

Meanwhile, online restocks have begun trickling in. Retailers like Walmart, GameStop, and Sam’s Club have already restocked their inventories in the initial hours of the launch day itself. Target is expected to go live with online orders on June 6, and more waves of stock are scheduled in the coming weeks.

In the UK, pre-orders were a bit easier to secure, but most outlets have now sold out. The hype is justified—Nintendo’s latest console upgrades the beloved hybrid design with more power and polish, blending handheld and home gaming more smoothly than ever.

Still on the hunt? Keep checking online retailers—fresh stock is on the way.

Features And Specs

Retaining its versatile hybrid form, the Switch 2 still lets users jump seamlessly between handheld, tabletop, and TV modes. Under the hood, the console is powered by Nvidia’s new Tegra T239 chipset, delivering a noticeable boost in speed, performance, and graphics capability. The vibrant 7.9-inch LCD screen supports full HD (1080p), HDR, and even up to a 120Hz refresh rate with variable sync—making both gameplay and visuals feel incredibly fluid.

Joy-Con 2 Brings A Few Surprises

The reimagined Joy-Con 2 controllers are larger and come with a few surprises. Most notably, there’s a new square “C” button below the home button on the right controller. This activates GameChat—a freshly introduced voice and video chat feature that works through the new Nintendo Switch 2 Camera accessory, designed to sit beside your TV. With this, players can appear as a video overlay during gameplay or in a separate chat window, blurring the lines between gaming and social interaction.

GameShare

Another highlight is GameShare, a feature that allows a single game owner to locally share a title with up to three nearby consoles—whether they’re original Switch units or the newer Switch 2. It supports both multiplayer gameplay and GameChat integration. Select titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will be among the first to support it.

Nintendo is also giving a nod to nostalgia by releasing a modern GameCube controller, exclusively available to Switch Online subscribers. It’s an optional add-on but sure to please long-time fans.

The Switch 2’s storage has been bumped to 256GB, giving players more room for games, downloads, and media without relying too heavily on microSD cards. And despite the larger screen and new features, the device remains nearly identical in thickness to the original Switch, keeping it sleek and portable.
