Rohan Verma, CEO of MapmyIndia, a homegrown digital maps service provider, has marked Ola Maps as a "gimmick" while questioning the claims of ANI Technologies (the parent company of Ola) of developing a navigational map of India. In a recent interview with news agency PTI, the CEO and Executive Director questioned the claim that the map was supplied by startup GeoSpoc, which was acquired and is a subsidiary of ANI Technologies.
The remark was based on the financial records as preparing a navigational map of India would require heavy investments and expertise. For context, MapmyIndia has sent a legal notice to Ola regarding the recent map network controversy. Verma refuted any possible risks for its business while claiming Ola Maps had quality concerns.

"We don't see a business risk, because we don't see a good product coming from there. People are complaining left, right and centre, about their (Ola) updated cab app, their updated electric vehicle app, that their maps are pathetic and causing users problems," he said. Verma also called these announcements "gimmicks" while complaining about the quality of the product.
As for the reaction from Ola, it said: "Ola strongly refutes the baseless and motivated statements made by MapmyIndia. They are a clear indication of the company's desperate attempts to stay relevant by maligning its competitors." For context, a legal notice was sent to Ola by MapmyIndia on June 23 for breach of the terms and conditions of the company's license agreement.
Ola signed the agreement in 2021 to deploy the Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and Software Development Kits (SDKs) for navigation, according to the report. MapmyIndia claims that Ola used the license and integrated the service into their software. Verma also questioned Ola's claim that it utilised OpenStreetMap to create Ola Maps.
