ChatGPT-maker OpenAI is now testing the Canvas feature for its popular chatbot to help users in their daily chores like writing or coding projects. Taking to the blog, the company has announced the new interface with Canvas which is more than usual chat. The ChatGPT Plus and Team users are currently able to work on Canvas. Further, Enterprise and Edu users will get the Canvas next week.

What is Canvas?

Canvas, as the name implies, is a place that can be used by ChatGPT users in specific scenarios. Essentially, users will have a spot apart from the main chat where they can put their writing or code, or even highlight the sections that they want the chatbot to focus on.

According to the blog post, the Canvas capability was developed using GPT 4o and may be selected manually via the model selector. The Canvas is simple to use, as is the chat interface, and it is only available to people who want to work on projects that require regular updating or modifications, primarily coders.

"Canvas opens in a new window so that you can work on a project with ChatGPT. This early beta presents a new approach of working together that goes beyond simple communication to include developing and improving ideas side by side," OpenAI said in a blog.

Canvas also recognises the context of what the user is attempting to create. Users can also indicate certain portions for the chatbot to focus on, such as code review or copy editing, and provide input on the issue.

The Canvas can be opened automatically when ChatGPT believes the tasks assigned are difficult and could be useful. Users can also provide suggestions, such as utilising Canvas to open the Canvas. The feature will be free once it rolls out.
