OpenAI Sora: Image generation using AI has been blowing up for quite some time now, and I am sure we all tried our hands on those Ghibli-style images, and now there is some more good news from the creators of ChatGPT. Sora image generator by OpenAI is now free and can be used through ChatGPT. Now all you need to do is put in a prompt using text like you usually do and generate images for free. The feature has been integrated with the chatbot and works like any other AI tool; just type and generate photorealistic images.

Video generation is still paid and is currently reserved for those with a Plus or Pro subscription. That paywall likely exists because of the intensive processing power and complexity involved in creating high-quality video content. Subscribers get access to generate videos in up to 1080p resolution, with a maximum length of 20 seconds.

Accessing Sora is simple—users can launch it directly within ChatGPT. To get started, they’ll need to create a username, which acts like a public identity for sharing their generated images, almost like a social media handle. While you can save your own creations, there’s no way to download content made by others. The interface itself is clean and familiar, bearing a strong resemblance to Meta’s recently released AI app for Android and iOS.

You can download these images, and they will come without a watermark and are saved in PNG format. Although it will still leave its imprint in the metadata, which can indicate that it was developed by OpenAI Sora.

When using Sora to generate images or videos, users can tailor their creations by choosing from various aspect ratios, selecting the number of variations, and picking from a range of preset styles. These include visually distinct options like Film Noir, Balloon World, Pixel Art, Cartoonify, and more—each designed to deliver a unique aesthetic.

Sora also provides users with a personal media library, neatly organised into sections like My Media, Favourites, Uploads, and Trash. For better content management, users can also sort their creations under custom category names.

On top of that, Sora features a built-in social feed where users can explore images and videos made by others. The platform’s layout takes cues from social media apps, making it easy to scroll through, get inspired, and see what the Sora community is creating in real time.
