Open AI, a San Francisco-based technology company, known for developing the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT, has exciting news for developers. They have recently announced the release of their latest text-generating model, GPT-4, through their application programming interface (API).

The GPT-4 API is now available to all current API developers who have a successful payment history, allowing them access to 8,000 contexts. By the end of the month, the company intends to expand access to new developers and gradually increase rate constraints based on machine availability.

"Starting today, all paying API customers have access to GPT-4. In March, we introduced the ChatGPT API, and earlier this month we released our first updates to the chat-based models. We envision a future where chat-based models can support any use case," OpenAI said in a blog post on Thursday.

OpenAI also advised users to migrate to the Chat Completions API and provided a depreciation schedule for previous versions of the Completions API. They stressed the advantages of the Chat Completions API's structured interface, which allows developers to construct conversational experiences and complete various tasks using capabilities like system messaging and function calling. The API's multi-turn conversation features, as well as the architectural separation of user-provided content from instructions, help to decrease the possibility of prompt injection attacks.

OpenAI is also making their GPT-3.5 Turbo, DALL E, and Whisper APIs more widely accessible.

With intentions to deploy this capability later this year, OpenAI is reportedly planning on enabling fine-tuning for GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 Turbo in the future. This development gives programmers more options for creating individualised and potent AI models.
