Internet Outage In Pakistan: Several social media apps ranging from YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) faced service disruptions in India's neighbouring country Pakistan at around 07:30 PM IST today. The outage graph on Downdetector (an outage monitoring website) showed a massive uptick in disruption reports at the stated time. At the time of filing, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has not issued any statement about the outage.

Downdetector registered around 900 disruption reports at 07:40 PM for YouTube, around 700 outage reports on Instagram and close to 350 reports of disruption on Facebook at around 07:25 PM today. Numbers for X were relatively less at about 120 during the similar time frame. The outage was also confirmed by internet observatory NetBlocks on X. According to the post, the live metrics display a "nation-wide disruption" on social networks such as Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and X.

"The incident comes as persecuted opposition leader Imran Khan's political party, PTI, launches its second virtual gathering," @netblocks stated. Services of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) also took a slight backseat, with over 100 disruption reports at 07:30 PM roughly. Meanwhile, users have been posting reactions to the update on Elon Musk's microblogging platform X. Here are a few of them:

Some media reports speculate the reason for the outage could be Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) second virtual meet (Jalsa). However, readers must digest these claims with a grain of salt as the official authorities have not shared a statement on the recent outage. On a related note, similar instances of service outages of social media apps were reported during other events of PTI, such as the "Fundraising Telethon" in January and the "virtual power show" in December.
