Perplexity Labs: Perplexity has unveiled a new feature called Labs, aimed at helping users build spreadsheets, dashboards, and even simple web apps in just a few minutes. Launched on Thursday, May 29,  but the sad news is that Labs is available exclusively to Pro subscribers only.

According to the company, “using Labs is like having a team”, and it’s designed for those looking to turn their ideas into real, working tools without needing technical expertise. Whether it’s a data-heavy report, an interactive slideshow, or a full-blown dashboard, Labs offers a streamlined way to build it.

In a blog post, Perplexity explained that Labs performs ten minutes or more of “self-supervised work” using a wide toolkit that includes deep web browsing, code execution, and chart or image creation. This combination enables the AI to process user prompts and deliver functional assets such as documents, visualisations, and spreadsheets.

It’s not just about automation—Labs can write and execute code to handle complex tasks like “structuring data, applying formulas, and creating charts, text documents, or spreadsheets.” Everything created through the process, including charts, code files, and images, can be found in the “Assets” tab. There’s also an “App” tab that makes it possible to deploy interactive tools like dashboards, basic websites, or slideshows—no external software required.

Perplexity’s official announcement on X highlighted the intended use cases:



“Labs is for your more complex tasks. It’s like having an entire team at your disposal. Build anything from analytical reports and presentations to dynamic dashboards. Now available for all Pro users.”

The startup emphasised that Labs is designed to tackle projects that would usually take anywhere from several days to weeks, involving various skill sets. Use cases include building a marketing campaign, analysing financial data, planning meals, or even creating apps—without having to write any code.

Currently, Labs is accessible via the web and Android and iOS apps. Pro users can find it in the mode selector within the input bar. Perplexity also mentioned that support for Mac and Windows apps is “coming soon”.

While Labs may offer more robust capabilities for in-depth work, Perplexity made it clear that Deep Research is still “the fastest way to obtain comprehensive answers to in-depth questions.” To reflect its evolving role, the company is renaming Deep Research to simply Research.
