Google is all set to unveil its Pixel 9 series devices next month in India. Weeks before launch, a new report from Android Authority claims the company could introduce a significant change under the screen, which could address a long-lasting problem with the Pixel series devices. The company could use an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on the Pixel 9 lineup.

The change could help Google fix the reliability and slow performance of the fingerprint sensor on previous Pixel devices. Citing a source, the report said the unit could be Qualcomm's 3D Sonic Gen 2 (QFS4008), which is already used on the S24 Ultra. The search leader first moved to an in-display fingerprint sensor with the Pixel 6 devices.

While the company improved its reliability with subsequent updates, the performance is not on par with the competition. The company currently uses slower optical fingerprint readers which uses light during the process. The report said the company could bring the under-screen fingerprint scanner on all devices except for the upcoming Pixel Fold. The book-style foldable is rumoured to offer a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

These devices are said to debut on August 13. The company said it will unveil Google AI, Android software and Pixel lineup of devices at the event. As for the expectations, the company could bring four devices this time that may run on a Tensor G4 chipset. The lineup could include the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Fold.
