Scammers are innovating at a rapid pace in India. As online scams continue to rise, among the hot favourites of these scammers are lucrative part-time job offers that lure users to earn extra income. However, this turns into a money trail in which the victim (in the guise of returns) invests a heavy amount. But this turns out to be a clever move by the fraudster. Among the latest case involving this fraud is a home tutor who fell prey to the scammers in a fake promise to earn extra income and lost Rs 5 lakh.

According to India Today, Praja Nandan Kulkarni, 48, who lives in Maharashtra, is a tutor. In her endeavour to add more revenue streams to her income basket, she searched for jobs on online platforms. On one such website, she was drawn by a job offer that promised decent sums of money in exchange for part-time work. The process was familiar to the 'like video' scam deployed by scammers.

She was asked to join a Telegram group, where the fraudster told her she could earn money by liking social media content. While initially, Kulkarni received 400 profit, as the trust built stronger, she invested Rs 5 lakh in expectations of more lucrative returns.

However, this was when the scam came to light, and she lost the money and did not receive any returns. A case was registered under the relevant sections of the IT Act and IPC. Adding extra vigilance to the tasks accomplished in exchange for easy money, Jayant Rajurkar, a police official at Sinhagad Road, added that no one pays money in exchange for a like on a video.
