Late Ratan Tata, one of the biggest Indian industrialists and philanthropists, has expanded the Tata Sons in the last 23 years. During his tenure, he has started some tech companies and also ventured into some startups which are technology giants in India. Here are all the tech companies and tech-related retail companies that are under Tata.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS):
After taking over the empire in 1991, the TCS went public in 2004. It is now the second largest employer in the country after Indian Railways and has over 601,000 of the world's best-trained consultants in 54 countries.
Tata Elxsi:
Tata took over the Elxsi business back in 1989 and is now known for its global design and technology services for Automotive, Media, Communications and Healthcare. It is currently present in 35 locations and 15 countries.
TCS iON:
TCS iON, a unit of Tata Consultancy Services, provides cloud-based IT solutions for SMBs, educational institutions, and exam boards. It offers integrated, scalable, and configurable services through a pay-as-you-use model.
Ignio:
It is an AI platform developed by Digitate, the software venture of Tata Consultancy Services It is designed to automate business processes, including IT operations, customer service and supply chain management.
Voltas:
Another technology company which is known for its consumer products is a part of Tata Group. Voltas Limited was established in 1954 and has operations in over 100 countries. As per the website, it has over 1 million employees.
Tata Play:
Formerly Tata Sky, Tata Play is an Indian subscription-based Satellite television service provider which uses MPEG-4 digital compression technology. It was founded in 2006 and was rebranded after 18 years to Tata Play.
Tata Docomo:
Tata stepped into the telecom industry in 2008 with GSM services after getting the licence. On 5 November 2010, Tata Docomo became the first private-sector telecom company to launch 3G services in India. Due to high losses, the Tata Group and NTT Docomo decided to step down and Bharti Airtel took over the service in 2017.
Croma:
Another retail channel and e-commerce company which deals in all types of technology products including smartphones, laptops, home appliances and other accessories. It was founded in 2006 and now has stores in over 150 cities.
