Realme, one of the major smartphone manufacturers, which is in headlines over unauthorised data collection using enhanced intelligent services, is now rolling out a new update that will disable the setting on some select models. The recently introduced Realme 11 Pro and Realme 11 Pro+ have already started receiving the software update automatically without any intervention.

The company will not only disable the enhanced intelligent services with the software update, but it will also change the definition and will no longer collect call logs and SMS. If you're wondering why Realme is releasing this update, here's a rundown of the events that have led up to it.

1. YouTube Video

TrakinTech, a renowned YouTuber, posted a video in which he demonstrated how Realme collects data with enhanced intelligent services that are enabled by default in the guise of improving the user experience.

2. Twitter Screenshot

A Twitter user took a screenshot and posted it under his own profile, which Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar spotted. Then Chandrasekhar directed that the matter should be investigated further by the appropriate authorities.

3. OnePlus And Oppo Also Came Into The Picture

Soon after Realme came into the limelight, other Chinese smartphone makers like Oppo and OnePlus smartphones had enabled the setting by default and were collecting the data.

4. Brands Issues Official Statement

After the matter got heated, Realme issued an official statement that said, “All data processed in this service is encrypted and stored in encrypted hardware within the user's device, strictly in compliance with Android security mechanisms."

In addition, the statement made it clear that, in contrast to the existing description, the company does not connect any data on SMS, phone conversations, schedules, etc.
