Xiaomi has locked in the launch of the Redmi K90 Max for later this month, and some early details are already out thanks to a senior executive sharing updates on Weibo. There’s still a bit of confusion around where this device fits, though. It could end up being the much-talked-about Redmi K90 Ultra under a different name, or Xiaomi might launch both side by side. Either way, this one clearly leans into gaming. It will sit alongside the Redmi K90 and Redmi K90 Pro Max that debuted in China back in October 2025.

A First For The K Series
The big headline feature here is the cooling system. Redmi is bringing active air cooling to the K series for the first time, and that’s a pretty big shift. The setup includes a redesigned internal fan and a more thought-out airflow structure to keep temperatures in check when the phone is under stress. Xiaomi claims it can bring temperatures down by up to 10 degrees Celsius in just about 100 seconds during heavy usage.
The fan itself is slightly bigger than usual at 18.1mm, which helps pull in more air. Xiaomi says this leads to up to 1.3 times better air intake. There’s also a vertical intake design and forward-tilted blades to push air more efficiently through the system. Add to that a vortex-style duct and metal fins guiding air towards heat-heavy areas like the chipset, and the company claims overall airflow usage improves by up to 40 percent.
Built For Long Gaming Sessions
What’s interesting is that Xiaomi says a lot of this has been fine-tuned using AI simulations. That includes how air moves inside the phone, how components are placed, and how heat is managed overall. Noise is also something the company says it has worked on, which matters because active cooling systems can get loud if not handled properly.
Performance is obviously a big part of the story. The Redmi K90 Max will run on a next-gen flagship chip, although Xiaomi hasn’t named it yet. There’s also mention of a dual-core performance setup, which hints at better sustained output rather than just short bursts of power. On the front, you’re looking at a 165Hz display, clearly aimed at gamers who care about smooth visuals.
Xiaomi is also tuning things like touch response, network stability, audio, and even eye protection with esports in mind. It’s less about raw specs on paper and more about how the phone behaves during long, intense sessions.
Design And What To Expect Next
From the teasers, the design keeps things fairly straightforward but with a clear gaming touch. You get a vertical dual camera setup on the back, and right next to it sits the visible cooling fan, which makes it obvious what this phone is built for.
There’s no exact launch date yet, but with Xiaomi already talking about it publicly, more details should drop very soon. There’s also talk of the Redmi K90 Ultra showing up at the same event, possibly alongside new tablets and laptops, but for now, that part is still up in the air.
