NOT A long time has passed since we witnessed the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup. While the buzz has not settled around the latest phones, reports have started tipping rumours about the S24 series. Popular tipster Ice Universe claims Samsung could slash down one camera from the upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Ice Universe claims a 10MP 3x optical zoom telephoto lens might not make it to the upcoming 'Ultra' model. The periscope camera will double as a 3x lens. No major specifics are highlighted as of now. Another tipster, cited in a GSMArena report, asserts the 3x unit was omitted, and a "variable folded telephoto" having 3x to 10x is now in place. Further, when asked about the confirmation, the tipster(@Tech_Reve) on Twitter writes "Probably" in the comments.
In December last year, Ice Universe claimed Samsung would replace the sensor and "adopt a new solution." It possibly was a hint to this change. However, a user must note the information is not from the South Korean giant's official sources and might change when the series debuts, probably next year.
This change, if implemented in the S24 Ultra, would offer high-quality results at every possible zoom from 4x to 9x, which is not possible at the moment, SamMobile reports. Another possibility it speculates is that the primary 200MP sensor could act as a 3x zoom lens.
For quick context, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra comes with a quad camera setup on the back. It has a 200MP primary lens, a 12MP ultra-wide, a 10MP 3x optical zoom and a 10MP 10x optical zoom telephoto sensor. On the front, the phone houses a 12MP selfie camera inside the punch hole. Features in the Camera UI include Night Portrait, Night Video, Astro Hyperlapse, Astrophoto, Multiple Exposures, Expert RAW and more.
As for other updates on cameras, the S23 Ultra is facing HDR halo effect issues in the camera. Tech blogger Ice Universe claims the fix is on the way in the next update. SamMobile speculates a fix to this problem in May 2023 with the security patch.
