Galaxy S25 Ultra: The showstopper?
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to be the destined magnum opus of the event, with its impressive camera setup ready to steal the show. Leaks and rumors suggest that the model will sport a 200MP main sensor, which will be paired with a 50MP ultra-wide lens and a 50MP telephoto camera that will be capable of 4x to 7x zoom. Additionally, it might also feature a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom which will be retained from its previous version. Rumors also suggest that the Ultra variant will also have advanced AI enhancements.
The expected price range
Although Samsung has not officially announced the pricing yet, early leaks offer an insight into the likely costs. The Galaxy S25 is anticipated to begin at Rs 79,999, the Galaxy S25 Plus at Rs 99,999, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra at a premium of Rs 1,29,999.
Will the new releases be upgrade-worthy?
The answer to this question completely depends on what a user wants from the particular device, and also the fact that how long a user has been using their current Galaxy model. For someone who had just invested their money in the Galaxy S24 last year itself, it will be a no-brainer for them to stick to their current device and they will be less inclined to make the switch. But for those users who have been using their device for years, the upgrade might be a big leap forward.
Based on the rumors surrounding Samsung's upcoming phones, three key factors will influence your decision to upgrade to a new Galaxy S25 model: the phone's chipset, the new Galaxy AI features, and the price Samsung sets for the complete package.
A significant move that Samsung can conjure this time is the use of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite silicon which will be the powerhouse of the device, and that is not just for the Ultra variant but all S25 models. According to rumors, all Galaxy S25 models are expected to run on a Snapdragon 8 Elite, unlike the previous variant the Galaxy S24 which had different chipsets depending on where the device was released in the world.
The use of Snapdragon 8 Elite as its powerhouse would be a welcome step as it is not just powerful but also energy efficient, as it can produce faster speeds much more efficiently, which in turn would translate to better battery life, even if Samsung decides to keep the battery sizes the same.
Focus shifts to Galaxy AI
Artificial intelligence will be a key focus for Samsung with the Galaxy S25. The AI tools introduced in this year's models will significantly influence whether an upgrade is worthwhile. Last year's Galaxy AI was promising, with practical features like live translations, Instant Slow-Mo, and Circle to Search, making tasks easier. Some tools, like Chat Assist, were less successful, but most additions were effective. While leaks about this year's AI plans are limited, reports suggest Bixby might receive an upgrade, gaining contextual awareness to interact with content on the screen. However, if Samsung extends these AI features to older phones like it did last year with its flagship series, it may reduce the incentive to upgrade.
Should you go ahead with the upgrade?
The answer to this question completely depends on what Samsung has up its sleeves for the Unpacked event, Galaxy S24 holders will be more likely to hold on to their current models if there are no significant upgrades to the S25 models. But for those who currently hold the S22 Ultra or older versions, the upgrade would be sizeable, no matter the price of the newer variants, as the latest version will feature a new generation of AI tools combined with a much more powerful chipset. Now it all hinges on what Samsung showcases when the launch takes place.
