Galaxy Z Fold 7: Samsung made its first big bet on foldable phones back in early 2019 with the original Galaxy Z Fold. Fast-forward almost seven years, and the company rolled out the Galaxy Z Fold 7 last month, calling it its thinnest, lightest, and most advanced foldable yet.
One of the biggest questions buyers still have about foldables is durability — especially the hinge. Samsung says the Z Fold 7 has been tested to survive 500,000 folds, more than double the 200,000 it claimed for last year’s Z Fold 6. On paper, that means if you fold it 100 times a day, it could last roughly 10 years. Even at 200 folds a day, you’d still get over six years of use.

But does that figure actually hold up in real-world use? Korean YouTuber Tech It decided to find out, manually folding and unfolding the Z Fold 7 around 200,000 times over five days.
The test revealed some early hiccups. Between 6,000 and 10,000 folds, a “reboot error” appeared — and kept popping up roughly every 10,000 folds after that. At around 46,000 folds, the hinge began making creaking sounds, though the phone still worked. Things got stranger at the 75,000-fold mark, when a mysterious black liquid leaked from the hinge. It disappeared but reappeared again near 105,000 folds, by which point the display crease had deepened.
The most serious issue showed up around 175,000 folds, when all the speakers — top, bottom, and earpiece — stopped working. The hinge also felt looser, losing much of its original elasticity.

Even with those problems, the Z Fold 7 managed to hit the 200,000-fold milestone. The inner display still had no dead pixels, touch input worked fine, and aside from the more pronounced crease, it remained functional.
