Samsung confirmed that the release of Galaxy smartphones will also coincide with the launch of One UI 8, which is based on Android 16. In a press note announcing enhancements to privacy and security features, the company mentioned, “existing Samsung Galaxy smartphones will receive the updates alongside One UI 8.” Samsung continues to implement new safeguards for on-device AI, including threat detection for multiple devices, as well as quantum-resistant encryption enhancing overall network security.

As part of their July 9 galaxy unpacked event, Samsung is set to reveal the next generation of Galaxy Z foldable smartphones. Alongside the expected Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, other prospective models include the Galaxy Z Flip FE and a potential Ultra version in the Fold series. Additionally, the company may preview what is presumed to be their first trifold phone, likely titled the Galaxy G Fold.

Samsung One UI 8: What to expect

Privacy and security features:

Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP) is a new privacy feature set to be introduced with One UI 8 and aims to safeguard personalised AI features.

Samsung elaborates that KEEP will maintain encrypted app-specific silos within a device, thus enabling each application to access only its exclusive set of sensitive data.

The firm is enhancing Knox Matrix’s capabilities to bolster security at the ecosystem level for Galaxy devices. With One UI 8, the system will be able to automatically sign out users from their Samsung Accounts for cloud-connected services if the device is classified as high-risk, thereby containing potential threats from sprawling across linked devices.

Samsung is further strengthening its Secure Wi-Fi feature by adding a new cryptographic framework. This update is aimed at safeguarding network connections from emerging threats, particularly those anticipated during the quantum computing era.

Alert Centre:

Samsung is reportedly developing a new security and privacy centralized dashboard referred to as Alert Centre. First brought to light by Android Authority, this center will serve as an all-encompassing hub for users to supervise app permissions and manage safety alerts with improved efficacy.

Unlike existing privacy tools such as Privacy Dashboard and Google Play Protect, which are spread across the Android settings, Samsung’s Alert Centre will streamline privacy and security notifications into a unified interface.

Advanced health tracking in Galaxy Watch:

Samsung previewed additional features to be released in the One UI 8 Watch Update Droid Health Update. This includes bedtime guidance, vascular load monitoring, running coach, and antioxidant index. Advanced Galaxy Watch models are expected to launch with Galaxy foldable smartphones on July 9.
