Merry Christmas 2023: As people gear up to celebrate Christmas a few hours from now, the world is excited to welcome gift-laden Santa Claus. And North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) has a proven track record of locating Santa since the 1950s. The organisation will continue the tradition of tracking Santa this year as well. The protocol dates back to 1955, during the days of Continental Air Defence Command (CONAD), NORAD's predecessor.
The bi-national US/Canadian military organisation reports the location on December 24 on the NORAD Tracks Santa website to let kids and adults across the globe locate Santa's coordinates. "While the tradition of tracking Santa began purely by accident...We're the only organisation that has the technology, the qualifications, and the people to do it," Santa's official tracker stated.
When Will Santa Arrive?
"It appears Santa arrives only when children are asleep! In most countries, it seems Santa arrives between 9:00 PM and midnight on December 24. If children are still awake when he arrives, Santa moves on to other houses. He returns later, but only when the children are asleep," NORAD said.
While Santa's route remains unpredictable, he generally starts from the "International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean and travels west". Based on historical records, after a trip to the South Pacific, Santa moves to New Zealand and Australia. Japan, Asia, Africa, Western Europe, Canada, the US, Mexico and Central and South America follow later.
