PlayStation 5 fans have enjoyed almost five years with this product and are not ready to say goodbye yet—who could blame them? Especially after its initial run was so explosive. Now we have several reports running around the new upcoming gaming console, its successor.

The PlayStation 6 is still unannounced, but speculation about its specs is heating up. Digital Foundry, via Wccftech, suggests the PS6 could pack 24 GB of RAM — a significant bump over the PS5’s 16 GB.

PlayStation President Hideaki Nishino hinted in a June 13 fireside chat (via Dexerto) that Sony is already considering its next-gen console, which fuels the speculation.

Why 24GB RAM Makes Sense

PS5 limits: Developers are pushing the PS5’s 16 GB RAM to its max with high-res textures and art assets.

Cost factor: While 32 GB would be ideal and closer to gaming PCs, DRAM remains expensive.

Market parity: Many premium laptops and gaming PCs already ship with 24 GB RAM, making it a competitive target for Sony.

Handheld and Xbox Rumours

Digital Foundry also predicts that Sony’s rumoured PlayStation handheld could feature 16GB of RAM, which means a 24GB baseline for the PS6 would maintain a performance gap.

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s next Xbox is rumored to resemble a pre-built gaming PC — possibly with higher RAM capacity, but likely at a higher price point.

What This Means for Gamers

The PS6’s hardware isn’t confirmed, and all talk of 24GB RAM is speculation. Still, with Sony’s PlayStation division being its primary revenue driver, a PS5 successor is inevitable. Whether it’ll use 24GB, 32GB, or something else entirely remains to be seen.
