iPhone to Android: If moving from iPhone to Android feels like a headache—especially when it comes to transferring your eSIM—there might finally be some good news on the horizon. Apple is reportedly working on a wireless eSIM transfer feature that could launch with iOS 19, potentially eliminating the need to call your carrier or fiddle with QR codes.

The hint comes from an Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 update, where a new string in Google’s SIM Manager app revealed a “Transfer to Android” feature. According to Android Authority, this could be part of a broader collaboration between Apple and Google to streamline the eSIM handoff from iPhones to Android devices.

Right now, switching your eSIM typically requires contacting your mobile provider for a QR code, scanning it on the new device, and hoping nothing breaks in the process. But with iOS 19, users might soon be able to handle it all from the iPhone’s settings. A new “Transfer to Android” page is said to be in the works, possibly nested under Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone. From there, a new option—likely labeled “Other Options”—might guide users through sending their eSIM over the air to an Android phone.

The process could still involve scanning a QR code or entering a session ID and passcode generated by the iPhone, but overall, it looks like a far more user-friendly system than what’s currently available.

While the feature isn’t official yet, all signs point to it making a debut with iOS 19 and Android 16 later this year. Apple might give us our first proper look at WWDC 2025 in June. If you’ve been holding off on switching platforms because of eSIM headaches, it might be worth waiting until the stable iOS 19 rollout expected in September.

It’s unclear what sparked this possible Apple-Google collaboration, but it's a rare move that could make life easier for users on both sides of the smartphone divide.
