U.S. President Donald Trump is throwing TikTok another lifeline, pushing back the deadline that decides the app's future by 90 days, the White House said yesterday. A new executive order, due to be signed this week, keeps a possible ban at bay until mid-September.
The extension signed in April last month was due to run out on June 19.
“President Trump will sign an additional Executive Order this week to keep TikTok up and running,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt in a statement to CBS News.

She added:
“As he has said many times, President Trump does not want TikTok to go dark. This extension will last 90 days, which the Administration will spend working to ensure this deal is closed so that the American people can continue to use TikTok with the assurance that their data is safe and secure.”
Background: Why TikTok Is Under Threat in the U.S.
- Back in January, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a law that banned TikTok, telling app stores and cellphone providers to wipe it off their platforms.
- Soon after, President Trump signed an order to pause that ban while talks continued.
- On April 4, he rolled out another 90-day timeout, giving ByteDance a short window to sell or split off its American business.
What Happens Next?
With this fresh 90-day clock, the Trump team keeps pushing for a deal that hands TikToks U.S. assets to a willing American buyer or partner. The aim is clear: cut the link with the Chinese parent so fears over data leaks and national security cool down.

While the future of TikTok in the U.S. remains uncertain, the latest extension shows that Trump’s administration is committed to finding a middle ground—allowing Americans to continue using the app, but under stricter ownership and data safeguards.
To conclude for now, TikTok remains live in the U.S.—at least for another 90 days.
