JE Technology Desk: In order to use TweetDeck, Twitter users will soon need to be verified, the social media company said. The change will take effect in 30 days, the company added.

In a tweet describing an updated TweetDeck with additional features, Twitter made the announcement on Monday. However, it was unclear if the microblogging site will charge users for both the new and old versions of TweetDeck or not.

"We have just launched a new, improved version of TweetDeck. Some notes on getting started and the future of the product are below: All your saved searches, lists, and columns will carry over to the new TweetDeck. You'll be prompted to import your columns when you load the application for the first time," the company tweeted.

"TweetDeck now supports full composer functionality, Spaces, video docking, polls, and more. Teams functionality in TweetDeck is temporarily unavailable and will be restored in the coming weeks. In 30 days, users must be Verified to access TweetDeck," it added.

Earleir, TweetDeck was free and is widely used by businesses and news organizations to easily monitor content. Charging for TweetDeck could bring a revenue boost to Twitter, which has struggled to retain advertising revenue under the control of billionaire Elon Musk.

The move comes just days after Musk announced that both verified and unverified users would be limited in the number of posts they could read each day "to address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation."

"To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits: Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day - Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day - New unverified accounts to 300/day," Muske said in a tweet on July 1.
