MICROBLOGGING platform Twitter has announced new API v2 access tiers. The Application Programming Interface (API) pricing is live on the website and ranges across three levels - Free, Basic and Enterprise. These plans aim to offer "programmatic access" to developers into core elements.

Twitter further added in the thread that in the next 30 days, it will "deprecate" Standard (v1.1), Essential(v2), Elevates(v2) and Premium access tiers. Hence users are recommended to migrate to the latest tier. Ads API shall be available at no extra cost to "approved" API developers including "Free" tier developers.

"Today we are launching our new Twitter API access tiers! We’re excited to share more details about our self-serve access," Twitter Dev posted.

Plans and Pricing

Talking of the Free plan, it comes with write-only use cases for testing the API. Further, it comes with one app ID, 1,500 tweets/month posts limit at the app level.

Secondly, the Basic plan is for "hobbyists or prototypes," the platform writes. It comes with a 3,000 tweets limit/month at user vertical. 50,000 tweets/month limit at the app level. You can access it with two app IDs and login with Twitter. Lastly, the plan bundles a "10,000/month tweets read-limit rate." The plan costs $100/month.

Finally, the Enterprise plan is designed for businesses and commercial projects. This package comes with commercial-level access that aims to meet the specific needs of both the consumer and the enterprise. Managed services by a dedicated team and complete streams are other benefits. The pricing of the plan is not mentioned on the website. Under the cost section, it says, "monthly subscription tiers."

Various Academia can subscribe to the existing plans depending on their needs. Further, the company is "looking at new ways to continue serving this community," the platform added. The current efforts seem like a channel to pour in revenue alongside serving the developer community. Parallel to this, for users, Twitter Blue is the company's premium subscription offering that caters to paid subscribers on the platform.
