The RIGHT TO REPAIR has recently gained a lot of attention because it allows people to repair their devices and vehicles without losing the official warranty. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has created a portal that focuses on consumer durables, electronic devices, automobiles, and farm equipment. Furthermore, the portal collects public information about the service, warranty, terms, and conditions, and so on.

Here’s all you need to know about the new Right to Repair.

Right To Repair: What Is It?

With the Right of Repair, the Indian government aims to give consumers access to much more affordable repairs from original equipment manufacturers and third-party repairers for their smartphones, appliances, cars, and other products. The Centre wants to avoid purchasing entirely new products by offering a cheap substitute for pricey replacements.

Which Categories Come Under Right To Repair?

According to the most recent reports, this category includes items from the following categories: mobile phones, tablets, consumer durables, cars, farming equipment, and automobile equipment. This occurred after a committee was established by the Department of Consumer Affairs to develop a Right to Repair framework similar to the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Will Right To Repair Help Consumers?

The Center's recently launched portal aims to shield users from planned obsolescence, or creating products with short lifespans that result in increased e-waste. Additionally, users would have the opportunity to criticise the above-mentioned products' prices, originality, and warranties. The portal will also assist the customers by offering information on third-party repairs, authorised repairers, and self-repairs.

Which Brands Have Registered For Right To Repair?

Numerous brands have signed up for the Right To Repair portal, including Apple, Samsung, Realme, Oppo, HP, Boat, Panasonic, LG, Kent, Havells, Microtek, and Luminous. Hero MotorCorp and Honda Motorcycles are two more automotive behemoths that have registered for the portal.
