Meta is enabling users to create custom AI bots on WhatsApp for Android, using the new AI Studio feature. This is currently active with select beta users and is anticipated to become more widely available in the coming weeks. The bots can be set up to perform various roles such as mentorship, teaching, mentorship, and even entertainment by customising the robot’s role, personality, and appearance. This enhancement was already done on Messenger and Instagram and is now rolling out to WhatsApp.
WhatsApp AI Studio Spotted in Latest Beta
According to WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.18.4 contains a “Create an AI” option which can be accessed from the Play Store. An AI Studio tab containing ready-to-use bots and other tools for building custom bots is also being added.
Completing the beta, users now have the ability to customise bots by adding instructions and selecting features freely, which is easier than what is available on other Meta applications.

How the AI Chatbot Creation Works
Users complete a step walkthrough in order to create their custom chatbot:
Purpose Description
Users provide a custom prompt of maximum 1,000 characters outlining the scope and purpose of the chatbot.
Personality Selection
From the description, WhatsApp provided some suggested traits along with the ability to add custom traits.
Role Assignment
Users select identity functions like ‘mentor,’ ‘helper,’ or even ‘teacher’ to enable the chatbot to perform specific tasks.
Avatar Customization
WhatsApp provides an editable avatar image, and users can create customized avatars using image generators through descriptive text prompts.
After carrying out these steps, users are now able to engage in customized conversations with their unique chatbot.
Future Availability and Sharing
Though Meta has not announced plans for enabling community sharing of these AI bots, it already exists on both Instagram and Messenger as community features. It is probable that similar functions will be rolled out on WhatsApp features later. Currently, the feature is exclusively accessible to a handful of beta users but is expected to be available more widely in the next few weeks.

Conclusion
The anticipated “Create an AI” feature will take us a step closer to allowing users to interact with AI in an unprecedented manner through WhatsApp. With custom chatbot development, Meta seems to be advancing deeper into user-centric AI on its diverse platforms. Although a complete rollout date is still unclear, the feature appearing in beta indicates that broader availability is likely on the horizon.
