Apple CEO Tim Cook has been Steve Jobs' successor since his resignation in 2011, now nearing the twilight of his tenure, the question arises, who can succeed Tim Cook as the next Apple CEO? There’s no doubt Cook has taken Apple to new heights and made it a multi-trillion dollar company and it will be a huge responsibility after Cook steps down. Well, again the question arises, who will fill the Cook’s shoes?

Well, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman with host David Gura delved into the topic shedding some light on the challenges of finding the right candidate for the position. He came up with a few names and said it would be a significant challenge for the board in identifying Cook's successor.

Among the front runners, the report suggested that Jeff Williams, Apple's current Chief Operating Officer, working with the company for a quarter-century is the contender. He has experience in managing operations and management positions, however, his age could raise questions about the longevity of his tenure if appointed as CEO.

Other contenders include Craig Federighi, spearheading software engineering efforts, and Deirdre O'Brien, overseeing the company's global retail operations, the report added. Both of them have notable skills and experience. Another contender emerging on the horizon is John Ternus, Apple's Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. He’s a decade younger than other contenders and has experience in key areas including product development and regulatory affairs.

It should be noted that Tim Cook has not hinted towards an imminent departure from the company but the board may reportedly face challenges in ensuring a smoother transition when the time comes.
