Apple's decision to allow third-party app stores on all devices in the European Union to comply with DMA has already ignited a privacy issue. The US-based technology company has been vocal about customer safety since being forced to allow some things on iOS and other capabilities. In the most recent update, Phil Schiller, one of the company's senior executives, advocated the closed zone around iOS for users. He also discussed the benefits, such as additional revenue sources for developers and the ability to use various payment systems for in-app sales.
However, while discussing the move, he also warned that third-party stores will raise concerns because iPhones will now be able to run content that was previously restricted by the platform. "It will not be our decision whether those other marketplaces have the same terms and limitations," Schiller was quoted as saying in the report.
What Will Third Party Stores Do And Why Is It Concerning:
Following the update, iPhone users will be able to install apps from other app stores besides the App Store. The company is concerned that applications outside of its App Store would cause things to spiral out of control, making things not possible to monitor. The company appears to be concerned about its operations in Europe, as policies have made things harder to operate.
Meanwhile, Apple is likely to implement the changes in the upcoming iOS 17.4 release. However, it has not been clear whether the company will expand the changes globally. According to the reports, the company will roll out the modifications globally with the iOS 18 update. Notably, iOS 18 is slated to be announced alongside the next-generation iPhone 16 series and might be a game changer for tech enthusiasts.
