JE Technology Desk: After launching xAI, the AI company to rival language models of big tech, the team, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, conducted a Twitter Spaces session on Friday. Musk stated that the purpose of xAI is to "understand the universe."

In the 90-minute Spaces chat, which was delayed initially, Musk communicated his vision for the company, and meandered into areas like the evolution of the Earth and the "fragility" of civilization, according to Reuters.

On a lighter note, the CEO added that the mission would be to explore "what the hell is really going on?" xAI's announcement comes against the backdrop of the CEO criticising OpenAI and Google for forging technology that could act against humans.

He added that xAI plans to make "good AGI [Artificial General Intelligence]" that will act as an alternative to OpenAI, Microsoft and Google tech models and solve problems.

The Spaces chat was delayed because of the algorithmic tweaks required to grab the attention of more users. xAI would work in close liaison with the microblogging app Twitter and car maker Tesla, Musk added.

xAI Will Use Twitter Data

The AI firm will train these models with the help of public tweets and join hands with Tesla for AI software. This would benefit both companies as it may also escalate Tesla's ambition to build self-driving vehicles, Musk added. However, a reader must note that the official webpage of xAI states that the company is separate from X Corp.

He went on to add that other AI companies used data from Twitter in an "illegal manner". Musk has voiced regulation of AI on several occasions in the past.
