Microsoft announced on October 14, 2025, it is no longer providing support services for Windows 10, increasing cyberattacks, security threats and viruses on devices still using it – meaning upgrades may now become even more necessary than before. But don't expect Windows 12 any time soon – no official date has been given by Microsoft yet.
Windows 11 Takes Center Stage
Rather than rushing out a new version, Microsoft is going all-in on Windows 11, transforming it into a more intelligent, AI-powered OS designed to succeed decades from now. The company’s emphasis is deep AI integration, which the company spoke about as mostly done through Copilot, a virtual assistant who comes baked into Windows.

Meet Copilot: Your AI Assistant for Everything
Copilot is more than a digital assistant; it’s the heart of Windows 11’s AI revolution. Now users can speak, text or send images to their system. The new Copilot Vision can analyse what’s on your screen in real time and offer context-sensitive help — whether you’re juggling work tasks, editing files or seeking gaming tips.
Deeper AI Integration with Smarter Hardware
Up-and-coming versions of Windows will lean on on-device AI processing, which in turn maximises performance while preserving user privacy. It’s all thanks to so-called neural processing units (NPUs), which have been released by large chip vendors like Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm. These NPUs allow speedy, privacy-preserving AI calculations on your own PC, reducing reliance on cloud processing.
Smarter Productivity and App Integration
Microsoft is working to enhance how Windows integrates with other platforms. Windows 11 will boast tight integration with OneDrive, Outlook, Gmail and Google Drive; in particular, "Copilot can assist people in organizing files, automating emails and managing projects using natural language responses.
No matter whether you are preparing a presentation, tidying your inbox or coordinating with multiparty accounts in the cloud, Copilot makes everything easier, understands what you need and acts as quickly for you.
AI-Powered Gaming and Real-Time Assistance
Gaming also gets an upgrade. Copilot delivers instant performance insights, strategies and tips in real time to the players for the first time. This fusion of AI and gaming results in a more seamless, intelligent and personalised experience for the everyman gamer.
What About Windows 12?
Windows 12 is probably postponed, according to Microsoft’s computer and software roadmap. Instead of hastily pushing out a newer version, Microsoft will continue to improve Windows 11 with AI-driven updates. When Windows 12 will eventually ship is a whole other question, and it may very well be completely AI driven by then, built for devices with NPUs running computing workloads.

The Future: AI at the Core of Windows
Windows will be conversational and intelligent. Microsoft’s mission is to make using your PC as natural and intuitive as speaking with a friend, whether it’s through speech, text, or touch. This transformation will reshape the way we search, operate and create across devices.
The initial uprising of Copilot+ PCs, launching in 2025, will offer the ultimate computing experience to date, complete with leading AI hardware from the world’s best tech providers.
The way that Microsoft is approaching this AI evolution, however, makes one thing clear — it’s not just focused on a new version number but on changing Windows into a more intelligent, human OS.
