Wings, a smart accessory company, launched the Prime smartwatch in India in August. The timepiece sits in the highly competitive under Rs 1,500 segment and comes in three stylish colour options: Blue, Olive and Black. It has a big 1.83-inch screen that enhances the overall look.
However, the question remains - whether this is a good investment for potential buyers. I have been testing the smartwatch since its launch and have mixed feelings. Nevertheless, I still think it can serve a selective category of users. Read on as I share my experience with the watch and help you decide whether it is worth considering.

Design and Build
The metallic finish and lightweight design of Prime make it extremely comfortable to wear for days without any hassles. It has an IP68 rating. I dipped it in water and used it in heavy rains. But it continues to stay strong. While I am impressed with the weight, I believe Wings can improve the overall build quality of the product. The buckle and the edges surrounding the screen require refinement.
Software and Display
The watch comes with a 1.83-inch HD IPS 2.5D curved 60Hz screen with up to 550 nits of peak brightness. This makes it bright enough for usage in direct sunlight and provides a good touch response. Prime's UI is feature-packed.

You can choose from a wide range of menu styles, receive notifications from phone and messaging apps, change watch faces, set a password for protection, and endless stuff. While the steps tracker seems to work well, the health-focused sensors such as heart rate and SpO2 mustn't be replaced for medical advice.

Call Quality and Connectivity
I experienced good call quality on the smartwatch with no issues of muffled output or complaints from the person on the line. The speaker output is also decent. Additionally, Bluetooth 5.3 support ensures seamless connectivity with the product. You can download the 'Wings Active' app from the Google Play Store to explore a range of watch faces, detailed steps tracking and other health stats.

Battery Backup
The company claims the watch's 260mAh battery can last up to seven days (with Bluetooth off). While I have no major complaints with the battery backup, I did notice an unusual problem with my unit.
After fully charging the watch, the battery declined to 95-94 per cent in the next two days. However, on the third day, the level dipped to below 50 per cent, causing the watch to die on the fourth day. It appears the watch has a software glitch as the battery stretches as promised for three days with Bluetooth on and moderate usage.

Wings Prime Smartwatch: Should You Buy?
In summary, the budget smartwatch market is crowded with competent options. However, if you are looking for a lightweight build, good display, and decent calling experience, the Prime watch can be a viable pick. That being said, if you are out in the wild and prioritise battery backup and superior build, you may want to consider looking elsewhere.
