X Ads Revenue Sharing: Elon Musk's X, formerly called Twitter, announced its creator monetisation program for users a while ago. To incentivise its use, the firm also reduced the upper limit of views to be eligible for payouts soon after the rollout. And in the latest step, the X owner has announced a "slight change" in this program.
Musk announced via his official X handle that if posts from an eligible profile for ad revenue sharing get corrected using a Community Note, these posts shall not be eligible for monetisation under the new rules. The aim is to prefer accuracy over sensationalism. This can be seen as an attempt to curb fake news published for the sake of views or to promote a false agenda on the platform.
"Making a slight change to creator monetisation: Any posts that are corrected by @CommunityNotes become ineligible for revenue share. The idea is to maximise the incentive for accuracy over sensationalism," Musk stated on X. "Worth 'noting' that any attempts to weaponise @CommunityNotes to demonetise people will be immediately obvious, because all code and data is open source," he added.

However, misuse of the new feature to target posts on the platform remains a question which shall be addressed once it completes a few days of release. For the unversed, the social media giant shares revenue with eligible users for ads featured in their replies to X Premium accounts. With the program, X aims to "help people earn" on the microblogging site. The news comes amid the ongoing threat of fake news around the Israel-Hamas war.

For context, to be eligible for X's monetisation policy, a user must have a Premium subscription, should have a minimum of five million impressions on posts in the previous six months and have a minimum of 500 followers. You can set up the payout features from the 'Monetisation' section of the app. A Stripe account is a prerequisite to start processing payments.
