X has finally rolled out its redesigned Android app after teasing the overhaul for nearly a year. The update, which is now available through the Google Play Store, isn't just a visual refresh. The company says the app has been rebuilt from the ground up, a move it believes will make the Android experience faster today and help it ship new features more quickly in the future.
The rollout was announced by X's Head of Product, Nikita Bier, who said the rebuild took more than a year to complete. According to him, starting from scratch allowed the team to modernise the app's foundation instead of simply tweaking the existing version.

For users, that should translate into a smoother experience. X says scrolling through the feed feels more fluid, posts load quicker and notifications are now more reliable than before.
One of the first things Android users will notice after updating is the redesigned interface. The bottom navigation bar now closely resembles the one on iOS, making both versions of the app look and feel more consistent. There's also a dedicated X Chat button in the bottom right corner, giving users quicker access to direct messages.
The update also introduces a new way to follow conversations around specific interests. Users can now pin topics such as football, politics, stocks and economy, or sports to the top of the app, creating customised timelines alongside the existing For You and Following feeds.
Despite the launch, X isn't calling the rebuild finished. Bier acknowledged that there are still a few rough edges and encouraged Android users to report bugs and share feedback as they use the new app.
More features are already in the pipeline. X says support for hosting Spaces will be added to the rebuilt app in a future update, while work is also underway to improve performance on older Android phones. Video and Video Editor are also expected to arrive soon.

Several features have already made the jump to the new app, including Cashtags and Custom Timelines, so users won't have to wait to access them.
The Android overhaul has been a long time coming. X first confirmed in August last year that it was rebuilding its Android app from scratch, and with this rollout, that project has finally reached users.
