YouTube, a popular video platform, has already paused recommendations for users who keep their watch history off and pushed users to log in with their Google Account on the smartphone app. The company is now extending this mechanism to the web as it has stopped displaying recommended videos if a user has logged out from their account or is using the platform in Incognito mode.
For the unversed, the company showed video recommendations to users not logged in to their Google account earlier in the 'Home' feed. First spotted by Bleeping Computer, the window displayed to users who do not sign in using their Google account read: "Try searching to get started." The company states that the move will let users build a feed based on their watching preferences. "Start watching videos to help us build a feed of videos that you'll love," the message said.
While the company has paused recommendations on the 'Home' page, short videos in the 'Shorts' sections are still accessible. Moreover, though Google has paused video recommendations for users who do not sign in with a Google account, we found a way out that can bring video recommendations to the feed.
Once you visit YouTube on the web (no Google account logged in), try switching to the 'Shorts' tab and then moving to the other spaces like 'Trending', 'You' and more. Now revisit the 'Home' page and recommendations should pop up. However, it is unclear for how long this solution will work or if Google will reverse its decision.
1. Visiting YouTube.com in Incognito mode.
2. Recommendations show up after revisiting 'Home' tab once you visit the 'Shorts' and 'You' tab.
3. Suggested videos while watching a video on YouTube.

After videos on the feed are displayed, the suggestions while playing a video on the platform also appear on the page in the left pane. The report citing X (formerly Twitter) users claims that home screen suggestions are also not displayed if a user clears their search and watch history and "turn all history off".
