YouTube Music, a popular music streaming application, is Google's bet to compete in the music application market. In an attempt to improve user experience and compete with apps such as Spotify and Amazon Music, the company regularly adds enhancements. In that latest series, Google is now adding five new filters to the app.

According to 9To5Google, the latest filters are Party, Feel good, Romance, Sleep and Cry. For context, the tech giant announced an 'activity' bar with mood filters in 2020 for YTM. Besides the existing filters (Energize, Commute, Relax, Focus, and Workout) and Podcasts, these filters aim to improve the listening experience.

As per the report, the Energize filter was the latest addition in 2021 before the new filters. Filters arrived on the web app in early 2023. It seems the 'Cry' filter puffs the recommendations with sad songs. Music tracks are presented in 'Quick Picks,' 'Feeling sad,' 'Breakups & heartbreak,' and more categories.

9To5Mac added that the filters are available for some smartphones and web users. However, they have not rolled out widely. We were able to locate all the filters (except the 'Sleep') on the Android app of YouTube Music.

On a related note, the company also rolled out a Samples tab for music discovery on the app. This feed offers short-form video segments of songs to let users explore new tracks from diverse artists. Users can swipe up to keep exploring more music from the internet. Plus, listeners can easily add a sample to their collection, create playlists and more. You can read more on this feature here.
